Workshop Description:
Painting en plain air is perhaps the single most important thing an artist can do to become a better painter. It can also be extremely overwhelming. During this three-day workshop, students will learn what to select and what to omit for strong design, how to see and use color, and learn to interpret the scene quickly while the light is changing. Lori’s individualized instruction will address needs at your level and push you to the next step in your development. The first day will begin with a complete demonstration of Lori's approach followed by instructor-assisted, student painting time. Days two and three may include very brief demonstrations as needed and be filled with continued personal attention with each individual student. While open to all levels, plein air experience is strongly suggested.

Brief bio:
Lori is a member of, and has exhibited with, many respected, professional organizations including the national and the eastern regional juried exhibitions of the Oil Painters of America, the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City and the American Impressionists Society. Her work has been chosen for the Laguna Plein Air Painters' Association 7th Annual "Best of Plein Air" Exhibition, 2011 and she is serving as Show Chair for the 12th American Impressionists Society National Juried Exhibition to be held in Carmel this year. Lori is also an active participant in The Chestnut Group, and the Southern Artist Registry. In 2008, Lori was awarded Signature Member status in the International Plein Air Painters and the Plein Air Artist of Colorado, both highly regarded, worldwide, plein air painting organizations; gained membership in the Salmagundi Club in New York City in 2009; and was chosen for Plein Air Painters of the Southeast in 2010. She has participated in several juried and invitational plein air events across the country, and recently won both the Artist’s Choice and the Public’s Choice Awards during the Wyoming Plein Air Festival, an Honorable Mention in the Florida’s Forgotten Coast Plein Air Invitational, and an Award of Excellence in the Southeastern Regional Juried Plein Air Exhibition. Her work is in the permanent collection at The Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland, in private collections and galleries worldwide. Lori’s paintings were featured in the book entitled, Painting North Carolina: Impressions in Plein Air, and in several issues of American Art Collector Magazine.

Although Lori has an interest in drawing and other art forms since she was very young, she considers herself self-taught, having studied independently, as an adult, with some of the nation’s best painters. Dawn Whitelaw, Scott Christensen, Michael Shane Neal, Jason Saunders, and Quang Ho are among her most influential teachers.
